Mrs. Janet Wells
Principal/Teacher

Mrs. Wells is in her sixth year at TLA. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education with a Minor in music, and a Master’s degree in Reading, both from Bloomsburg University. At various times and in five different schools she has taught every level from Kindergarten to twelfth grade, and she brings 20 years’ prior experience as a Lead Teacher and a Principal. At TLA she serves as the Teaching Principal. “I love the Dialectic Stage of learning - watching reasoning blossom and grow; discussing literature; wrestling with algebra; getting to know my students; laughing out loud and sharing humor; and focusing on Jesus in every subject area. I love teaching those things which still challenge me to learn and grow!” Her students appreciate her sense of humor, her passion for her students and their learning, and her desire to make everyone feel comfortable in class. “She gives us grace when we don’t deserve it, and I love that she acts as our teacher AND our friend.”

Miss Maryann McGuire
Primary Grades Teacher

Miss McGuire has been at TLA five years, and she specializes in teaching our youngest students. This year she has eleven Kindergarten through third graders; her hands are full! She is especially adept at teaching beginning reading and math skills, and she intuitively understands how students learn and what they enjoy doing to learn. Her gifts mesh so well with our classical model. Miss McGuire’s favorite thing about teaching at TLA is “living daily with the greatest youngsters in the world!” She especially enjoys teaching science and sharing the Scriptures with her charges. She appreciates parents and grandparents who join in making the classroom run smoothly. One grandparent is Mrs. Ann Marie Wilkes, a retired Special Education teacher who volunteers two days a week in the classroom. Each semester, education students from Marywood University are assigned placements in Miss McGuire’s classroom, and she enjoys their energy and ideas. Miss McGuire’s students describe her as kind, active, fun, loving, and, as a third grader quipped, “a teacher of order”. Her students love to learn, and they expressed joy in learning how to read, write, and master addition and multiplication facts; to learn about penguins and sea creatures; and, of course, “she lets us play outside!” One Kindergartner enthused, “I like that she likes to read to us!”

Mr. Edward White
4th-6th Grade Teacher

Mr. Ed White is completing his first year of teaching at TLA. He works with the ever-energetic fourth, fifth, and sixth graders (all boys!). Mr. White holds a B.A. in Physics with minors in Math and Art, and an M.A. in Intercultural Studies. He brings a variety of teaching experiences: Sias University, PRC in China; Dayspring School in South Africa; and Shukugawa Christian Center in Japan! Due to some changes during Covid, we are blessed to have him back in the States and teaching at TLA. “My favorite things about working at TLA are teaching multiple subjects, and the small teacher-student ratio.” He especially enjoys teaching science and history. His students describe him as kind, nice, funny, able to make learning fun, and a good teacher. What have they learned from him? “I learned some math, and some Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, French, Mexican, Thai, and Russian!” “I have learned lots of grammar from Mr. White that I did not learn in the public school I attended.” “I learned about Valley Forge.” “I learned how to check by 9’s in math, and how frost forms.” Mr. White is a gentle, godly man who is an asset to our faculty, and we are grateful the Lord (through Barb Nordquist) sent him to us.
