Ms. Anna Iannuzzo

Ms. Anna Iannuzzo,

Teaching Principal

Ms. Anna Iannuzzo is beginning her first year as principal and teacher for grades four, five, and six. A native of northeast Pennsylvania, she attained advanced degrees in psychology and criminal justice. After teaching psychology for the last 3 years, she knew a career change into full-time education was imminent, leading her to The Lutheran Academy.

Prior to accepting this position, Ms. Iannuzzo taught at both Lackawanna College, and Luzerne County Community College, and looks forward to using the skills she obtained to educate students at TLA.

Miss Mary Ann McGuire

Miss Mary Ann McGuire,

Primary Grades Teacher

Miss McGuire has been at TLA five years, and she specializes in teaching our youngest students. Miss McGuire earned a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Bloomsburg University, and she holds a Baccalaureate degree in American Sign Language and English Interpretation. This year she has eleven Kindergarten through third graders; her hands are full! She is especially adept at teaching beginning reading and math skills, and she intuitively understands how students learn and what they enjoy doing to learn. Her gifts mesh so well with our classical model. Miss McGuire’s favorite thing about teaching at TLA is “living daily with the greatest youngsters in the world!” She especially enjoys teaching science and sharing the Scriptures with her charges. She appreciates parents and grandparents who join in making the classroom run smoothly. One grandparent is Mrs. Ann Marie Wilkes, a retired Special Education teacher who volunteers two days a week in the classroom. Each semester, education students from Marywood University are assigned placements in Miss McGuire’s classroom, and she enjoys their energy and ideas. Miss McGuire’s students describe her as kind, active, fun, loving, and, as a third grader quipped, “a teacher of order”. Her students love to learn, and they expressed joy in learning how to read, write, and master addition and multiplication facts; to learn about penguins and sea creatures; and, of course, “she lets us play outside!” One Kindergartner enthused, “I like that she likes to read to us!”

Mr. Edward White

Mr. Edward White

4th-6th Grades Teacher

Mr. Ed White is completing his first year of teaching at TLA. He works with the ever-energetic fourth, fifth, and sixth graders (all boys!). Mr. White holds a B.A. in Physics with minors in Math and Art, and an M.A. in Intercultural Studies. He brings a variety of teaching experiences: Sias University, PRC in China; Dayspring School in South Africa; and Shukugawa Christian Center in Japan! Due to some changes during Covid, we are blessed to have him back in the States and teaching at TLA. “My favorite things about working at TLA are teaching multiple subjects, and the small teacher-student ratio.” He especially enjoys teaching science and history. His students describe him as kind, nice, funny, able to make learning fun, and a good teacher. What have they learned from him? “I learned some math, and some Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, French, Mexican, Thai, and Russian!” “I have learned lots of grammar from Mr. White that I did not learn in the public school I attended.” “I learned about Valley Forge.” “I learned how to check by 9’s in math, and how frost forms.” Mr. White is a gentle, godly man who is an asset to our faculty, and we are grateful the Lord (through Barb Nordquist) sent him to us.

Mr. Ky Betts

Mr. Ky Betts,

Upper Grades Art Teacher

Mr. Ky Betts is our Dialectic (7th and 8th grades) art teacher and has taught at TLA for eight years. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education (University of South Dakota), a Bachelor of Art in Illustration (Marywood University), and a Master’s in Illustration (Hartford University). He is a Freelance Illustrator for Teaching Textbooks, teaches at local universities, is a painting teacher at Spirited Art, teaches cartooning at local elementary schools, and teaches art privately. “I love the friendly Christian atmosphere at TLA. I love being able to talk about Jesus while teaching.” He especially enjoys teaching drawing and cartooning. His students describe him as able to show them more than one side to a drawing, and how to be serious about art but have fun with it, too. “I have learned about different styles of art and what they represent,” stated a seventh grader. “I’ve learned to draw a face with the features in the right places!” said another. One student said simply of his influence, “He is like a father to me.”

Mrs. Mary Chache

Mrs. Mary Chache,

Elementary Grades Art Teacher

Mrs. Mary Chache (her last name rhymes with H) has been teaching art at TLA for twelve years. Her education includes the Governor’s School for the Arts at Bucknell University, the Art Institute of Boston, a Bachelor’s of Arts in Graphic Design from Penn State, and post-graduate work at Marywood University. She owns Chache Design, and has also worked as an Art Director and Designer for several companies. She also taught art at the Geneva School for seventeen years where she developed curriculum to integrate art with their classical history studies. “I love seeing the light turned on in a student when they get what I’m teaching. I love learning along with my students as I research more, especially as it relates to Art History!” Mrs. Chache’s students like that she inspires good ideas and brings fun to the classes. One student enthused, “I have learned many famous Pennsylvania painters!” Another is happy because “I learned how to draw better,” and another learned how to blend colors. The younger students expressed joy in making art from the Ancient Greek and Roman eras: coiled pottery, the Trojan Horse, and mosaics. One Kindergartner is just utterly impressed with Mrs. Chache’s glasses!

Mrs. Mary Luchansky

Mrs. Mary Luchansky,

Business Manager

The friendly face in the office and the energy-filled happy voice on the phone belong to our new Business Manager, Mrs. Mary Luchansky.

We had no idea who God would send to fill the hugely talented shoes of Mrs. Amy Betts when she left for her dream job in January. We were delighted to meet Mrs. Luchansky and see just how wonderfully the Lord provided. With ten years’ experience as a Medical Assistant, and being a busy mom of two boys, she came with skills that she uses every day at TLA. “I love to use my creativity to help support the Academy and its students! My favorite thing is to see and talk to all the wonderful students and

staff. I’ve only been here a short time, but I feel very much a part of this community.” Mrs. Luchansky earned the Mary Harriman Award in 2022 from the Junior League of Scranton for her effective volunteer leadership and service. She easily keeps up with our fast pace and the busy office hub. We are so glad she is here!

Pastor Kim Bode

Pastor Kim Bode

Pastor Kim Bode holds a B.S. and an M. Div. in Clinical Pastoral Education. He served as a congregation pastor for 47 years, and has been at TLA for four years. “I love the discussions with the children! My favorite thing to teach is Bible-based religious instruction.” His students like that he is funny and kind. “He has a great sense of humor” says one student. “He answers my questions,” quips another. “He always has a smile on his face, no matter what kind of day it is.” “I like that he pushes me to try to answer questions.” His students appreciate memorizing and understanding Bible verses and learning about the church seasons. One student commented on the “fun videos” he shows, and that Pastor Bode “teaches us to be more like Jesus.” Another appreciates that he is “very technologically advanced”. But one student’s take-away from Bible class is, “Don’t trust a snake!”

Mr. William Keller

Mr. William Keller,

Computer Teacher

Mr. Bill Keller is a retired math and computer teacher at North Pocono and a math and computer instructor at Johnson College. This is his third year teaching our oldest students computer applications such as Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets. Mr. Keller holds a Bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University and an M.S. from Temple University. “I enjoy working with the students and helping them to learn to use the various Google applications!” Our students describe him as understanding, patient, kind, and helpful. “He takes his time to help us when we’re stuck so we don’t fall behind.”

Mr. Keller understands that not everyone gets a new concept right away. “I learned to take a second and breathe before I look at the computer again,” shares one of his students. Our teachers, too, benefitted from a class led by Mr. Keller during our pre-service training. We are thankful to the Lord for Mr. Keller’s gentle methods and thorough knowledge.
