WELCOME TO THE LUTHERAN ACADEMY!

The Lutheran Academy is a private Christian school, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, that serves students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 from Lackawanna county and the surrounding areas.

The Lutheran Academy is committed to providing a Classical Christian Education to families in our community, with the aim of preparing the next generation of young citizens to recognize and appreciate goodness, truth, and beauty in relation to God, and to fulfill His purpose for their lives.

As a small, safe, and affordable school that is family-oriented and Christ-centered, we hold ourselves to high academic standards while also focusing on the visual and performing arts. Our students spend an average of 30 minutes each day playing instruments and singing, as we believe that artistic expression is an important aspect of a well-rounded education.

At the heart of our educational philosophy is the belief that the true nature of God embodies the ultimate principles of Goodness, Truth, and Beauty. To that end, we strive to nurture the spiritual, academic, physical, and social development of each student, while also providing opportunities for them to serve others.

Our comprehensive program is based on the Classical Education model, which emphasizes the three verbal arts of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric (known as the Trivium). We believe that mastery of the Trivium is essential for true freedom within a community, and we are committed to helping our students achieve this mastery.

OUR SCHOOL MISSION:

To build up the lives of God’s children through the training up of their minds, bodies, and Christian faith; that every child might become a lifelong learner, equipped to serve Jesus Christ in their lives of service to mankind.

Why a Classical Christian Education?

“The ground for the necessity of Christian schools lies in this very thing, that no fact can be known unless it be known in its relationship to God. And once this point is clearly seen, the doubt as to the value of teaching arithmetic in Christian schools falls out of the picture. Of course, arithmetic must be taught in a Christian school. It cannot be taught anywhere else.”
Douglas Wilson, The Case for Classical Christian Education

“Education is fundamentally religious. Consequently, there is no question about whether a morality will be imposed in that education, but rather which morality will be imposed.”
Douglas Wilson, The Case for Classical Christian Education
